Former Northwestern University head football coach Pat Fitzgerald filed a lawsuit seeking more than $100 million against the university and its president, Michael Schill, alleging Fitzgerald was fired improperly after allegations of hazing in the football program came to light.

“We are claiming various charges against Northwestern and Mr. Schill, including breaches of two different contracts, intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation and claims for punitive damages to punish Northwestern and President Schill for the injustices that they have imposed and inflicted on Mr. Fitzgerald and his family,” said Fitzgerald's attorney Dan Webb during a press conference at Winston & Strawn's office in Chicago.
