R&B Cases & Concepts: Solitary Confinement.

In this episode of “Cases and Concepts”, Romanucci & Blandin attorney Nicolette Ward and Illinois House Representative LaShawn Ford discuss the devastating practices of solitary confinement for inmates in the Illinois Department of Corrections and the direct impact those practices had on our client, Anthony Gay. Anthony, who was released from prison in 2018 after spending nearly 20 years in solitary confinement, gives us a glimpse into the deep psychological and physical torture he endured during that time under conditions that violated his constitutional rights and exasperated some mental health conditions that went untreated. Our firm has filed a lawsuit in federal court on Anthony’s behalf to bring him justice for the violations of his civil rights. Furthermore, we are working directly with Anthony and Representative Ford to help those still in solitary confinement by introducing the Anthony Gay Isolated Confinement Restriction Act which would limit prisoner isolation in Illinois. This legislation is desperately needed to bring humane and civilized standards to the practice of isolating people in Illinois prisons.
