Settlements & Verdicts

R&B reached $325,000 settlement for worker struck by a truck in Northwest Indiana

Romanucci & Blandin announced a settlement of $325,000 for a worker who was struck by a truck while trying to get his car keys.

The plaintiff suffered degloving injuries to the lower portions of both legs, requiring intensive wound care and a skin graft procedure. After litigating the case for multiple years in Indiana state court, Senior Attorney Bryce Hensley of Romanucci & Blandin – with the help of local counsel at Pfeifer, Morgan and Stesiak – resolved the matter.

R&B reached a settlement for an individual abused by Father John Burke of the Clerics of St. Viator and the Diocese of Joliet

Romanucci & Blandin Partner Martin D. Gould and Senior Attorney Nicolette A. Ward  settled with the Clerics of St. Viator and the Diocese of Joliet on behalf of an individual (John Doe) who was repeatedly sexually abused as a boy by Father John Burke in the 1970s. Prior to retaining counsel, John Doe reported the abuse to the Clerics of St. Viator, and spoke with Fr. Daniel Hall, where he learned that Father Burke had a history of grooming and molesting young boys who fit John Doe’s profile. He would prey upon vulnerable boys from disadvantaged backgrounds whom he would meet at youth centers in the surrounding area. The boys were often poor, fatherless and looking for a male role model.

R&B announced a settlement on behalf of the family of 27-year-old James "Jimmy" Larsen who died following an incident on a party bus on a Chicago highway.  

Romanucci & Blandin announced a settlement for the death of 27-year-old James J. R. (Jimmy) Larsen following an incident on a party bus on a Chicago highway.  On June 3, 2017, Jimmy and more than 20 friends rented a party bus to travel from Gurnee, Illinois to Rosemont, Illinois to celebrate a birthday.  On the return trip, Jimmy was standing in the front of the bus adjusting the music for the bus sound system.  Due to bus speed and inexperience of the driver, Jimmy fell and hit the passenger door.  The door opened while in transit and Jimmy fell onto Interstate 294.  Jimmy died as a result of the fall.
