CPD officer who shot Derek Jordan 'ignored any opportunity to de-escalate,' family alleges in lawsuit

The Romanucci and Blandin law firm is representing Jordan’s family, and it filed the lawsuit Friday. The firm held a news conference Monday afternoon laying out the allegations in its lawsuit, which names the city of Chicago and the police officer who shot Jordan as defendants.

The officer “came in unjustifiably hot to a scene in which Derek was inside a car that was blocked by several police officers,” said Antonio Romanucci, one of the lawyers representing Jordan’s family.

Those officers already on the scene were “working to de-escalate the situation,” Romanucci added. But the officer who shot Jordan “ignored any opportunity to calm the scene, to de-escalate and do what police officers are supposed to do.”
