Protecting Chicago's Hispanic Community

Pagina en español.

Romanucci & Blandin has a decades-long commitment to the Hispanic and Latino community in Chicago, and we are taking swift action to protect their rights during the crisis in our shared home. We have lived, worked, employed and fought alongside members of Chicago’s Hispanic community for years and we are dedicated to protecting, defending and advocating for them now in this time of crisis.

The Unthinkable is Happening

The actions playing out on the streets in and around Chicago are right out of the horrific pages of human history. The “disappearing” of people detained by secretive, masked agents with no rights being read, no reason given for detention, no phone call and no ability to contact an attorney. Teargassing of protestors. Use of force that causes bodily injury and harm. Dragging parents out of cars with their children nearby. Journalists are being arrested. Wrongful detentions. Civil rights and human rights violations against Hispanic and Latino men, women, children and countless American citizens. This autocratic playbook is a disturbing parallel to devastating wartime tactics by dictators across world history.

Further, federal agents are now patrolling the streets wearing masks and profiling people based on race and appearance, in direct violation of the Ku Klux Klan Act, designed to make exactly such actions illegal. This is no different than a deeply painful and shameful chapter in American history.

They are arresting Dreamers, landscapers, dishwashers, cooks, hospitality, hospital and factory workers, and their children. They are detaining American citizens indiscriminately. They are crashing vehicles to apprehend. Rappelling from helicopters. Zip tying sleeping children. Somewhere in Chicago, a child is hiding in an attic as masked men are storming into homes without warrants.

Chicago is known as the City of Big Shoulders. We embrace every one of our immigrant communities. Chicago was built by immigrants from the four corners of the globe, and we are all better for it.

We stand with the Hispanic community in Chicago. We are dedicated to doing the right thing for our neighbors. Our friends and family. Our community.

Standing With Chicago’s Hispanic Community: It is the right thing to do

From Irish and Italian immigrants of past generations to today’s Hispanic families, history has too often repeated the same story: new arrivals, hardworking contributors, targeted and marginalized. In Chicago — and across the America they help build — we stand by the Hispanic community, and we fight for you.

The Preeminent Law Firm in Chicago for the Hispanic Community

Romanucci & Blandin is proud of its decades-long fight for justice and Constitutional rights for clients of all races, religions and economic statuses. The Hispanic community in particular is under siege by federal law enforcement agents carrying out unconstitutional orders and violating the rights of countless neighbors, causing physical harm, disruption to families, businesses and communities.

The lawyers at Romanucci & Blandin are preeminent national civil litigators and the “Go To” defenders of civil rights of Chicago, with more than $1 billion in results for clients and countless honors and recognitions from peers and professional organizations. In the last three years alone, we have secured more than $400 million in verdicts and settlements for Hispanic clients. We are proud to have multiple Spanish-speaking attorneys and staff who are trained in working with survivors of trauma. We are active in Hispanic legal organizations and in non-profit work to support the community.

Our work ranges from historic police misconduct cases like representing the family of George Floyd in Minnesota and Tyre Nichols in Memphis to the heartbreaking death of Sonya Massey in Illinois, securing both civil justice for her family and getting an Illinois law passed in her name to improve police hiring. We are also passionate about representing those harmed or killed in mass shootings such as the Highland Park, Illinois Fourth of July Parade shooting, the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the LGBTQ nightclub Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs, Colorado and others.

Whether it’s assault weapon massacres, police misconduct, sexual abuse or negligent doctors, we take on cases and do the right thing.

We get it done.

Chicago’s Hispanic Community: A Pillar of the City

Economic Strength: Not Just Numbers, But Power

This economic strength underscores why the Hispanic community deserves not only respect but protection from civil rights abuses, profiling and constitutional infringements.

Chicago’s Hispanic Community Is Under Attack

We are taking action to protect the Hispanic community and our country from Constitutional violations.

The Constitution of the United States, along with the Illinois Constitution, guarantees rights to protect civilians against abuses of power, especially unlawful detention and detainment.

We must stop Constitutional violations of due process and stop violations of Constitutional amendments, including, but not limited to:
