Minneapolis says inspections found gaps in securing grain elevator before teen fell, was badly hurt

... On May 20, less than seven weeks before Ranallo-Korbel fell in the structure near Hiawatha Avenue and E. 38th Street, the city alerted the grain elevator’s owner to “unsecured openings,” city spokesman Allen Henry told the Minnesota Star Tribune.

A city inspector followed up on June 5, Henry added, when the owner indicated a welder would help secure the property. A city inspection on June 15 revealed the work had not been completed, the spokesman noted.
