Amir Locke legal team responds to Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals rejection of dismissal of lawsuit
Statement from legal team representing the family of Amir Locke, including Ben Crump, Antonio M. Romanucci and Jeff Storms:
"Today’s opinion by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals denying the efforts of Minneapolis and Sgt. Mark Hanneman to dismiss the civil litigation over the police shooting death of Amir Locke correctly allows this important case to move forward. The defense’s attempts to delay proceedings and avoid accountability for Amir’s death are deeply troubling, especially when coupled with the City’s recent decision to promote Sgt. Hanneman to lead MPD’s use-of-force training.
While City leaders continue to voice commitments to reform, their actions—including those that re-traumatize families like Amir’s (and the community at large)—reflect a troubling indifference to human life and the rule of law. Our legal team remains steadfastly committed to pursuing justice for Amir as the case proceeds to discovery."
