Chief Communications Officer Jennifer McGuffin named spokesperson for Susan G. Komen Chicago Race for the Cure

September 24, 2021

Romanucci & Blandin, LLC, a national litigation firm based in Chicago, announces Chief Communications Officer Jennifer McGuffin has been named spokesperson of the Susan G. Komen Chicago Race for the Cure. The firm also is proud to be a lead sponsor of the annual event, in honor of clients and staff who have breast cancer or lost loved ones to the disease.

The Susan G. Komen organization has one mission: To save lives by meeting the most critical needs of our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. This year’s annual Race for the Cure in Chicago will be held virtually, and participants are encouraged to run and walk wherever they are and feel the presence of the Komen community every step of the way.

In the role of spokesperson, Jennifer will advocate for Susan G. Komen awareness and fundraising through media interviews, corporate appearances and in a video that will be shown at 9 a.m. on the date of the Race for the Cure, October 23.

Romanucci & Blandin is lead counsel in the civil lawsuit against Sterigenics in Willowbrook, Illinois, where toxic emissions of ethylene oxide, a known carcinogen, sickened more than 700 residents with breast cancer, fertility problems and other ailments. Separately, the firm recently secured an Illinois record $12.35 million in a medical malpractice case for the family of a woman whose breast cancer was not diagnosed in a timely manner despite a family history of the disease and multiple lumps in her breast and armpit. She lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 37, leaving behind a husband and young children.

Jennifer, who is a 2019 breast cancer survivor and a member of the Susan G. Komen Chicago Executive Leadership Council, leads the communication team at Romanucci & Blandin and is responsible for the firm’s media strategy, public affairs and legislative outreach, communication with referring attorneys and clients as well as internal communication. In 2020, she was named Woman of the Year in Advertising, Public Relations and Marketing by the prestigious Stevie® Awards for Women in Business. A former journalist, she was recognized for her work including media relations on a range of high profile civil rights cases including representing the families of George Floyd and Daniel Prude, environmental matters like the ethylene oxide exposure case involving Sterigenics, representing clients who lost loved ones due to Boeing 737 MAX negligence and pursuing justice for consumers after Commonwealth Edison admitted to a bribery scheme.

The firm has created Team Romanucci & Blandin for this year’s Race for the Cure and will be holding a walk along Chicago’s scenic River Walk from the Clark Street Bridge to the Lakefront on October 20 at 10 a.m.  Anyone wishing to register for this year’s Race for the Cure is welcome to sign up at the link below and join attorneys and staff for the R&B event.

Gina A. DeBoni, Managing and Senior Partner at Romanucci & Blandin.

“At Susan G. Komen we advocate for breast cancer patients and their families all year long, but October is especially important, when we host Race for the Cure as a way to not only raise money but also to raise the spirits of our community. There is tremendous value in coming together to honor those touched by breast cancer and inspire all of us to keep fighting for a cure. We appreciate our supporters like Romanucci & Blandin and others for joining us in this fight,” said Beth Carona, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen Chicago.
