Romanucci & Blandin files civil lawsuit against Batavia, Illinois chiropractor office and owner for secretly videotaping patients during treatment – one of four hidden camera cases currently handled by the firm

November 25, 2025

Legislation imminent to protect children from hidden cameras in businesses

(CHICAGO, November 25, 2025) – There is a plague in communities across Illinois that is harming children, adults, and the elderly - one that cannot be stopped by a vaccine or any type of medication. Hidden camera exploitation can and must be stopped, but it will require a combination of treatment methods, including criminal justice, civil justice and strengthening our laws to ensure no one can video record a susceptible person or child in a compromised or undressed situation unknowingly or without consent. This behavior, particularly in a healthcare setting, is toxic and deeply harmful.

Secret video recordings during medical treatments exploited children, parents and grandparents in suburban Chicago at their most vulnerable, seeking a safe space to heal. A new civil lawsuit details how the male owner of a Chicago suburban chiropractor’s office abused the trust of his medical clients by secretly recording them in treatment rooms, highlighting a disturbing trend of hidden camera cases in the Chicago area. A new civil lawsuit has been filed on behalf of four patients – three generations from one family – all of whom believe they were violated by secret recordings in this medical office where they had a reasonable expectation of privacy. Additional lawsuits on behalf of more plaintiffs in this matter are expected soon. Criminal charges against that owner have been filed by the Kane County State’s Attorney.

This case is disturbingly similar to recent allegations of secret video recordings of young female employees in a bathroom of a suburban ice cream shop in Addison, Illinois. Romanucci & Blandin filed a civil complaint against the Flavor Frenzy ice cream shop and its owner on behalf of 11 young female plaintiffs earlier this Fall. That store owner is also criminally charged in that case.

The law firm is investigating two other recent reports of hidden cameras in two separate Chicago-area businesses, where people may have been secretly recorded in states of undress.

Case Background

The medical office in this latest civil case is Hanson Family Chiropractic, in Batavia, Illinois. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged the office owner, David Hanson, with multiple felony counts, including producing and disseminating child pornography, possessing child pornography, and unauthorized video recording of a minor. Prosecutors say Hanson recorded patients in states of undress using hidden cameras in a room used for red-light or near-infrared light therapy. The State’s Attorney’s Office says Hanson was also found to be in possession of and disseminated sexual images of children, which are unrelated to the office recordings.

The legal team believes that dozens of innocent people have been harmed by inappropriate and negligent conduct at this medical office. Our clients are distressed, disgusted and deeply disturbed that they may have been violated by a predator without their knowledge or consent.

The law firm of Romanucci & Blandin announces the filing of a civil lawsuit on behalf of four plaintiffs, who are also represented by the Law Office of Rohde and Infelise, PC. Romanucci & Blandin, a national trial firm based in Chicago with extensive experience representing survivors of sexual abuse by teachers, clergy, scout leaders and other figures of authority, now represents numerous individuals who were treated at Hanson Family Chiropractic with concerns that their or their loved ones’ privacy has been violated at this trusted local medical provider.

Legislative Action

Further, Illinois State Representative Curtis J. Tarver, II (D-25th District), a small business owner himself, is announcing his intent to file legislation imminently that will create one or more paths to accountability and oversight of businesses and their use of cameras in semi-private or private spaces.

Rep. Tarver will introduce the Protect Children from Hidden Cameras Act (PCHC) in early December. The objective of the legislation is to protect children’s civil rights so that families can trust that private spaces in Illinois businesses are safe.

Similar Secret Camera Suit Filed by Romanucci & Blandin in October

Last month, Romanucci & Blandin filed a similar civil lawsuit against an ice cream shop, Flavor Frenzy, at 48 W. Lake Street in Addison, Illinois, for operating an unsafe and unlawful place of business, particularly for young girls. Defendant Steven Weisberg, the owner and operator of Flavor Frenzy, used the business as a vehicle to recruit, exploit, and endanger minor female employees. Weisberg instructed female employees that their work uniform consisted of a shirt and tight black pants and that they were required to model Flavor Frenzy t-shirts or other apparel for purported website photographs.

Unbeknownst to Plaintiffs, Weisberg installed a hidden camera disguised as an electrical outlet in the store’s only restroom. Weisberg required minor employees to repeatedly change clothing in that restroom, purportedly for business marketing purposes — often supplying bras and Flavor Frenzy-branded garments — to secretly record them in states of undress.

“When a person seeks medical treatment, there is an assumption of trust – that their healthcare provider is there to help heal them and improve their quality of life. Nothing seems further from that bond of trust than new allegations that multiple patients of all ages were secretly video recorded by their healthcare provider using hidden cameras in treatment rooms of a chiropractic office, where people are vulnerable seeking care and healing. Our law firm is committed to seeking justice for the harms done by this plague of exploitation of these patients and others,” said Antonio M. Romanucci, Founding Partner of Romanucci & Blandin, LLC.

“The manipulation of patients in this medical office is deeply troubling. He abused his position of authority and his patients’ trust in a place where they should have been safe to focus on their personal healing. Instead, this chiropractor violated their personal boundaries and their rights,” said Partner Daisy Ayllón, Romanucci & Blandin, LLC.

“Our family is in complete disbelief that someone we turned to for help and healing appears to have violated us in this way. And for so many members of our own family to be exploited raises serious questions about how many others may have also been harmed. The actions of this chiropractor have seriously diminished our community’s trust in healthcare providers,” said Plaintiff Jane Doe 1.

“Everyone deserves safe, private spaces free from secret recording. When children are the targets, it is beyond unacceptable. It is a betrayal of basic trust. I will file the Protect Children from Hidden Cameras Act next month, and when we return to Springfield in January, I will immediately get to work with my colleagues on real civil protections and real consequences so families can trust that private spaces in Illinois are truly private,” said Rep. Curtis J. Tarver, II (25th District).
