Lawsuits filed on behalf of 14 victims of the Las Vegas Route 91 Festival Shooting

November 29, 2017

Attorneys from Romanucci & Blandin, LLC and Titolo Law Office announced today they have filed lawsuits on behalf of 14 victims of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, 2017. The lawsuits, being brought separately by the 14 plaintiffs, name as defendants: MGM Resorts International, Mandalay Bay, Live Nation Entertainment, Live Nation Group, the Estate of Steven Paddock, Slide Fire Solutions, Doe Manufacturers and Roe Retailers – manufacturers and retailers of the used bump stock device.

Attorneys from Romanucci & Blandin are also currently representing plaintiffs in the mass shootings that occurred at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida and Power Ultra Lounge in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The complaints state that on Oct. 1, 2017, the plaintiffs were either customers of MGM and Live Nation or working the event co-hosted and co-sponsored by MGM and Live Nation and were victims of untold damages as a result of the actions of MGM’s VIP guest, Steven Paddock. The lawsuits further state that Paddock was enabled by MGM employees and permitted to use special, MGM-conveyed privileges of use of a service elevator—not accessible to the public— to smuggle his cache of weapons and ammunition to the 32nd floor, where he then set up a shooting gallery in his suite over a period of three or more days to prey on innocent concert-goers.

Paddock fortified his position, the complaint states, by installing his own surveillance system within the hotel room and public areas of the hotel before unleashing an onslaught of gunfire on the concert below, resulting in the death of 58 people and injuries—both physical and mental—to thousands, including the 14 plaintiffs represented in today’s filings.

“The evidence we’ve seen thus far clearly indicates that the defendants were culpable in contributing to the 58 victims who lost their lives and the thousands more still suffering from severe injuries that will take years to overcome, if ever,” said  Antonio M. Romanucci, Principal and Partner at Romanucci & Blandin, LLC and lead counsel on the Pulse nightclub case. “As we pursue these matters in court, our top priority will be to support the victims and their families as we seek to institute real reforms to prevent atrocities like this in the future.”

This horrific assault did not occur, could not have occurred, and would not have occurred with a conventional handgun, rifle, or shotgun of the sort used by law-abiding, responsible gun owners for hunting, self-defense, or other lawful means. The damage caused to the plaintiffs named in these lawsuits resulted from the military-style arsenal that the shooter amassed, augmented to automatic function by devices that Slide Fire and other companies manufactured, marketed, and sold to the general public without any reasonable measures or safeguards and which the killer foreseeably used to such horrifying ends.

“The arguments in our clients’ cases are clear: this mass shooting could have been stopped,” said attorney and local counsel Tim Titolo of Titolo Law Office. “It is now our goal with these lawsuits to instigate real policy and operational changes so that not one more victim has to confront a scene similar to the terrifying evening of October 1 in Las Vegas. There is nothing more important than seeking and securing those reforms.”

Romanucci & Blandin attorney Stephan D. Blandin and others will also be handling the case. Attorneys from the Law Office of Conrad J. Benedetto have been retained as co-counsel in some of the cases.
