Romanucci & Blandin Demands Answers After Mesquite Mother Forced to Give Birth in Hospital Waiting Room

December 2, 2025

Letter to Dallas Regional Medical Center leadership seeks accountability, transparency, and immediate reforms

CHICAGO and DALLAS — Three weeks after a Black mother was forced to deliver her baby in the waiting room of Dallas Regional Medical Center, her attorneys are demanding answers and action from the hospital’s leadership. A detailed letter sent November 26, 2025 to CEO Josiah De La Garza, Chief Nursing Officer Melonye Huber, and the Hospital’s General Counsel calls for an urgent, in-person meeting and outlines serious concerns about the treatment of Ms. Kiara Jones.

Ms. Jones is represented by the national civil rights firm Romanucci & Blandin (Chicago) and the Dunk Law Firm (Houston).

The letter states:

“Ms. Kiara Jones’ experience during admission, labor, and delivery raises profound and disturbing concerns about Dallas Regional’s policies, practices, staff training, and culture with respect to obstetric care—particularly for women of color.”

The firms request that Dallas Regional explain how such a failure occurred, what immediate safety measures are being implemented, and how the hospital intends to make Ms. Jones whole.

KEY CONCERNS RAISED IN THE LETTER

The letter demands clear answers in five areas:

  1. What happened.
    • Attorneys ask the hospital to account for the chain of events, including why Ms. Jones—who had a scheduled induction at the hospital just hours later and was already a known patient—was left in a wheelchair in active labor instead of being taken directly to Labor & Delivery.
  2. Policies, training, and culture.
    • The letter asks Dallas Regional to explain its obstetric triage protocols, EMTALA compliance training, implicit-bias education, and whether the hospital tracks racial disparities in patient outcomes.
  3. Immediate corrective actions.
    • Attorneys request disclosure of any root-cause analysis, investigations, staff retraining, policy changes, or triage reforms implemented after Ms. Jones’s ordeal.
  4. Redress for Ms. Jones.
    • The firms ask how Dallas Regional intends to address the physical and emotional harm Ms. Jones suffered and whether the hospital is prepared to discuss financial compensation.
  5. Transparency and collaboration.
    • The letter notes that the hospital’s public statements have been vague and cites “patient privacy laws” as a reason for withholding information. Ms. Jones has already agreed to sign any authorization necessary to allow the hospital to speak freely and publicly. The attorneys emphasize that the hospital could learn directly from Ms. Jones’s account and that transparency is essential for community trust.

CALL FOR BROADER ACCOUNTABILITY

Romanucci & Blandin and Dunk Law Firm note that this incident fits into a larger pattern of racial disparities in maternal care. They urge deeper review by local, state, and federal agencies.

NO RESPONSE RECEIVED

As of late morning of December 2, 2025, Dallas Regional Medical Center has not responded to the letter.
