Romanucci & Blandin announces investigation into Elk Grove Village, IL police shooting death of Jack Murray

December 4, 2023

Romanucci & Blandin, LLC, announces a civil investigation into the police shooting death of 24-year-old Jack Murray by Elk Grove Village, IL Police. The incident happened December 1, 2023. The shooting took place outside, just a few doors away from the Murray family home.

According to Jack’s family, Jack was a Type 1 Diabetic and was aware of the impact that disease had on his physical and mental health. While not all people experience Type 1 Diabetes in the same ways, Jack experienced both physical and emotional distress with his disease. In the past, he had called Elk Grove Village Police asking for help if he felt his own health and wellness were in danger. Jack occasionally also checked himself into the hospital for the same reason.  The family believes Jack called police again on December 1, 2023.

“We believe the Elk Grove Village Police Department was familiar with Jack Murray and knew he occasionally called them for help when he was in physical or emotional distress. We believe that may have been what happened on Friday, December 1.  Our civil investigation has begun, and we are focusing on officers’ treatment of a known emotionally distressed person and their use of de-escalation tactics to preserve Jack’s life and get him the assistance he needed.  We call for transparency by Elk Grove Police and the release of the 9-1-1 call, all body and dash cam footage from this event and from all prior encounters with this young man. His family is deeply grieving and deserves answers on exactly what happened Friday afternoon,” said Antonio M. Romanucci, Founding Partner, Romanucci & Blandin.
