Statement from legal team representing family of woman failed by DFW hospital while in labor

“The family of the Black mother who was not provided even the basic level of healthcare and delivered her newborn in the waiting room of Mesquite Regional Hospital on November 11 is now represented by the national civil rights law firm of Romanucci & Blandin in Chicago, along with the Dunk Law Firm in Houston.

The law firms are exploring all legal remedies in this case and are becoming increasingly concerned with the disparity and the level of care being provided to people of color versus those who are not. This is an issue that needs to be explored very closely by local, state and federal governments.

The family is not going to make any media comments at this time, and we ask that the media respect their privacy as the family focuses on the essential bonding time between mother and newborn, as well as mom’s post-natal recovery. The legal team will provide an update on this case in the future at an appropriate time.”
